TYPES OF PITCHES

FASTBALL

1 - CAN BE USED AS A FIRST PITCH TO GET AHEAD IN THE COUNT

2 - USE ON CORNERS AND KEEP LOW

3 - AS OUR PITCHER BECOMES MORE ADVANCED IN THROWING BREAKING PITCHES, SHE WILL USE LESS FASTBALLS

4 - MOST GOOD COLLEGE PITCHERS DON’T USE MANY FASTBALLS, BECAUSE THEY MUST ! MAKE THE BALL MOVE. AS THE BATTERS WILL HIT THE STRAIGHT FASTBALL.

5 - THE SPEED FOR A FASTBALL, OF A GOOD HIGH SCHOOL PITCHER IS HIGH 50’s TO LOW 60’s

RISEBALL

1 - A RISEBALL IS A SUCKER PITCH USUALLY USED WHEN YOU ARE AHEAD IN THE COUNT.

2 - IN COLLEGE AND GOOD "ASA’ BALL RISERS ACCOUNT FOR MORE THIRD STRIKES THANANY OTHER PITCH.

3 - IT SHOULD BE THROWN AT THE SHOULDERS.

4 - IF THE BATTER MAKES CONTACT IT IS USUALLY A FLY BALL OR POP-UP.

SCREWBALL

1 - USED MOSTLY ON LEFT-HANDED BATTERS AND SLAPPERS.

2 - CAN BE USED ON RIGHT-HANDED BATTER TO JAM THEM.

CURVE BALL

1 - CAN BE THROWN AS A STRIKE OR A WASTE PITCH.

2 - A CURVE CAN BE THROWN USING DIFFERENT SPEEDS WHICH MAKES IT A MULTI-PURPOSE PITCH.

DROP BALL

1 - A DROP BALL IS THROWN WHEN YOU ARE AHEAD IN THE COUNT, AS IT IS USUALLY CALLED A BALL BY THE UMPIRE.

2 - IT CAN BE USED WHEN A GROUND BALL IS NEEDED.

3 - IT CAN BE USED AS A FIRST PITCH TO A TEAM WHO IS AGGRESSIVE AND SWINGS AT THE FIRST PITCH.

4 - IF THE UMPIRE IS CALLING THIS A STRIKE USE IT !!!!

5 - SHOULD BE THROWN AT THE KNEES.

CHANGE-UP

1 - TO BE USED WHEN THE BATTER IS SWINGING AHEAD OF A FASTBALL, NEVER WHEN A BATTER IS SWINGING BEHIND.

2 - SHOW EARLY IN THE GAME FOR PSYCHOLOGICAL ADVANTAGES.

3 - KEEP LOW AND OUTSIDE, 10 - 15 MPH SLOWER THAN YOUR FASTBALL.
